Julia Wheeler is the BBC’s Gulf Correspondent based in Dubai, serving radio, television and online outlets. Since 2000 she has reported on a broad range of news, business, social and sporting stories with a brief to explain the Gulf region to the UK and the rest of the world. Through news and more in-depth programmes across the BBC network, Julia has covered everything from high profile political visits to sensitive court cases as well as business and sports stories. She also writes for British newspapers.

Julia has lived in Dubai since 1995, working for four years at Dubai TV and Radio where she produced and presented a variety of programmes including those of a cultural and historical nature.Before coming to Dubai, Julia worked for BBC News in the UK, reporting, producing and editing bulletins and programmes.

Julia has a deep interestin the Gulf region and wrote the award-winning book, Telling Tales: An Oral History of Dubai, for which she interviewed senior members of the Emirati community.
