Abdul Aziz Al Mahmoud is a Qatari engineer and journalist. He has a BA in Engineering from Clarkson University in New York and an aviation and engineering diploma from the UK. He worked as editor-in-chief of Al Sharq and the Peninsula newspapers as well as www.aljazeera.net. He has also been a columnist on Middle East and global affairs for several newspapers.
Al Qursan (The Pirate) is his first novel and takes place in the early 19th century, during one of the most important periods of history in the Arabian Gulf. It unfolds against the backdrop of the brutal struggle between the British Empire and the Wahabi tribes of the Gulf for control of the area.
