With more than 200 published titles, Ahmed Khaled Towfik is without a doubt the Arab world’s most prolific and popular horror and science fiction writer. He was born in 1962 in the city of Tanta, Egypt. In 1985, he graduated from Tanta University’s medical school, and received a PhD in 1997.

Since its release in 2008, Towfik’s latest novel, Utopia, has enjoyed wide acclaim and been reprinted three times. In this suspenseful science fiction novel set in a near-future Egypt, the over-indulged rich live in gated communities, beyond whose walls anarchy reigns. On its publication in English, the Independent called it ‘far more convincing a depiction of a nightmarish future even than A Clockwork Orange’.
