LitFest 2012 sees a happy increase in the number of Foodie events which will appeal to all ages and tastes! Rush for your tickets!

Mast o Khiar - Ariana BundyFriday 9 March

Josceline Dimbleby discusses her book Orchards in the Oasis with Lucy Taylor at 3 pm in Al Ras 2. This book is an enlightening and absorbing account of her lifelong love affair with food and travel, beautifully illustrated with mouth watering food photography and the author’s personal photographs. Be sure to come and hear Josceline discuss her itinerant childhood which spawned a passion for discovering other lands and their differing cuisines.

The same day (Al Ras 2 6 pm) Annabel Karmel shares with her large and enthusiastic following her multitudinous ideas for making healthy, fun and attractive food for kids! Come and be inspired and see how that fussy eater may be turned into an adventurer. The author of more than 24 books on the subject, Annabel tackles many of the questions which vex parents when catering for a family. Family Cookbook, Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner and Cook it Together are among her top sellers.

In Al Ras 2 at 1.30 Ariana Bundy is launching her exquisite new cookbook - Pomegranates and Roses: My Persian Family Recipes, published by Simon and Schuster, due to be launched in London in April, and including such recipes as mast o khiar (pictured above). We in Dubai are most fortunate to be having a sneak preview of this sumptuously photographed book which captures the essence of a vibrant cuisine. Come and hear Ariana tell us about her family’s culinary secrets and you may be lucky and taste a morsel. Make sure you have tickets for the Literary Tea on Saturday when Josceline Dimbleby and Ariana share their culinary experiences and inspirations.

Bobby Chinn’s Literary Lunch may be sold out at Terra Firma but punters will have a chance to hear the inspirational expert on Vietnamese cuisine on the Foodie Panel on Sat 10!

Saturday 10 March

The Foodie Panel in Al Ras 2, 10 am, is poised to be a scintillating affair with international chefs Giorgio Locatelli and Bobby Chinn joined by our own Suzanne Husseini in discussion. They are going to find much in common, share their boundless enthusiasm for their favourite cuisines and we will discover where their culinary styles meet! Suzanne is a generous and passionate cook, and is the author of When Suzanne Cooks, an inspirational and colourful collection of modern Arabian flavours. Ex stand-up comedian (just one of his former incarnations) Bobby Chinn is an expert on Vietnamese Food. His first book of that name is described as ‘a true adventure story for the palate’. Giorgio Locatelli shares his passion for Sicily in Made in Sicily, the book described as ‘a tapestry of fact, legend, recipes and firsthand experience’ and ‘the best book on Sicilian food in the English language’.

Come and be entertained by Giorgio Locatelli, famed restaurateur and author of Made in Sicily, demonstrating a delicious sardine dish from Sicily while in sizzling conversation with Rosie Goldsmith in Al Ras 2 at 12.30pm. His palpably infectious enthusiasm will inspire us all into creating little Sicilies at home!

Very soon after that comes a full demo from our favourite Suzanne Husseini, long time friend of the LitFest. She is cooking from When Suzanne Cooks and will be doing a rich assortment of Arabian dishes from caramelised onion tart, baba ghanoush and A Thousand and One Nights ice cream, to name a few. Suzanne is inspirational and her cooking is fuelled by her childhood in Canada where her unusual lunch boxes became everybody’s envy.

The final event in our very full and exciting foodie strand is a gentle, conversational Literary Tea with Josceline Dimbleby and Ariana Bundy where will we all have a chance to sample some of their recipes while sipping our tea of choice. Hosted by Anise in the Intercon at 4.30 pm, this event will provide us all with a chance to hear about their travels and food inspirations and converse with them. Orchards in the Oasis by Josceline Dimbleby and Pomegranates and Roses by Ariana Bundy are both gloriously evocative titles and the pages within certainly live up to their promise.
