Francis Matthew has worked in the Middle East as a journalist and editor for almost 30 years, with occasional spells in Europe. Since 1995, he has been Editor and then Editor-at-Large of Gulf News, focusing on social and political writing and interviews, and helping to build its position as the Gulf’s largest English language newspaper.

He is also the editor of The Rise of a Nation: 30 Years in Pictures, a second volume of which is in preparation.

Francis has a BA in Arabic and Islamic History from Exeter University, UK.
