An Emirati born in Dubai, Maha Gargash studied abroad in Washington D C and London, gaining a degree in Radio and Television, before returning to join Dubai Television to pursue her interest in documentaries. After more than 20 years’ experience of directing, scripting and presenting television documentaries and features, mainly to do with traditional local societies, she wrote her first novel, The Sand Fish, which was published in 2009. Maha is now writing her second novel. Set in the 1950s in what is now the United Arab Emirates, this tells the poignant and powerful story of a rebellious young woman trapped in a repressive society.
