Francesca Main graduated from the University of Warwick in 2002 and began her publishing career with an internship at Blake Friedmann Literary Agency before joining Penguin Books UK. She worked in the editorial department at the Hamish Hamilton imprint before joining Simon & Schuster as a Commissioning Editor in 2007.
Francesca joined Picador as Editorial Director in 2011, on the eve of the imprint’s 40th anniversary. She publishes literary fiction with a broad appeal, and is particularly focused on acquiring new writers for the list.
In February 2011, Francesca was selected by the British Council to participate in a UK editors’ tour of China, meeting writers, publishers and translators in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. She has also been guest editor for the Singapore Writers Festival and Geneva Writers Group, and a guest speaker for the Arvon Foundation, Faber Academy and a number of British universities.
