Dr Gabriele Landwehr has worked for the Goethe-Institut since 1978, and since September 2013 has been the executive manager and regional director for the Gulf Region, based in Abu Dhabi. Prior to this she held positions as an education expert in Munich and Rome, and as executive manager/director of the Goethe-Institut in Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York and Chennai. From 2008 to 2013 she was liaison officer for business relations in the Institute’s head office in Berlin.
In 1979 she took sabbatical leave to lecture at the University of Southern California in a special German Studies Programme with German intellectuals, writers, artists and politicians. In 1986 she returned to California and produced a weekly radio show on KFOX Los Angeles, as well as serving as Hollywood correspondent of the German Press Agency, DPA.
Gabriele has produced various films on German topics, and is a member of German professional organisations and foundations. She is a graduate of the University of Stuttgart and has published many books and articles on cultural issues. She is a jury member of the Kulturmarken Award in Berlin, Germany.
