We brought 22 year 7s from Dubai International Academy and they loved seeing and hearing Phillip Ardagh. One boy, Pablo, even got up there with him because he wore a big, black beard.
They really enjoyed it and it was a great change from the usual school routine. Can I add also that it was very well organized which made bringing the students there very easy.
Thank you for all your efforts and for giving children the chance to hear a real life writer.
- Kieran Packard, Dubai International Academy
Education Day is a key element of the Emirates Festival of Literature in which authors hold free sessions for schoolchildren and university students from across the UAE. From its inception in 2009, Education Day has brought students and authors together in ever increasing numbers – to the extent that it is now actually held over two days!
The principle behind Education Day is that coming face-to-face with authors fuels a lifelong love of words in children, inspiring them to embrace reading and writing. What we have also discovered is that the authors themselves – particularly those not used to addressing young people – find it an educational experience as well!
The 2014 Education Day Programme
The following events are all free for schools as part of our Education Day initiative; please contact Nicky Mills (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information about English language sessions and Yara Mirdad (email@example.com) for more detail about Arabic language sessions.
