Julia Wheeler is an experienced journalist and interviewer who has worked for the BBC for more than 15 years, including as the BBC’s Gulf correspondent based in the Middle East between 2000 and 2010. From Dubai, she covered news, business and sports stories for BBC Radio, TV and Online, both for Newsgathering and more in-depth documentaries across the networks. She has also written for British newspapers, notably the Times, Daily Telegraph and Guardian.
Julia wrote the award-winning book Telling Tales: An Oral History of Dubai, for which she interviewed senior members of the Emirati community. She has moderated large-scale conferences, chaired inter-government forums and now interviews and chairs at literary festivals.
Julia is an alumna of the Faber Academy and is currently writing her first novel. She is a Governor at Tonbridge Grammar School, an enthusiastic, RHS-qualified gardener and, having restored an Italian farmhouse, a keen Italophile.
Julia read Economic and Social History before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at City University, London.
