Dar Al Adaab – The House of Literature
Dar Al Adaab (The House of Literature) is the year-round home of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in the Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood, Dubai.
“The heritage and history of the UAE is tied to literature. We have a wealth of prose and poetry and the Emirates Literature Foundation aims to cultivate an even richer literary tradition. The heart of this tradition is Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood, home to many veterans of the city and ideal for the Foundation’s initiatives, the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature and the Dubai International Writers’ Centre. The Festival has been instrumental in promoting intercultural exchange and fostering a culture of reading and writing in the country and thus, it is fitting that the Festival makes its home in this picturesque hub of cultural activity. Dar Al Adaab, the House of Literature, is the perfect inspiration for writers and thinkers in the city and we encourage you all to visit us in this beautiful Literary District.”
- H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Emirates Literature Foundation
The first Dar Al Adaab opened in Al Fahidi in September 2011 as an office and events space. Subsequently, Emirates LitFest grew to the point that larger premises were needed for the larger team and more ambitious projects. With the creation of the Emirates Literature Foundation and the opening of the Dubai International Writers’ Centre, the relocation to Shindagha was necessary but also desirable – the LitFest and the Writers’ Centre now have more classrooms available for year-round events and a larger outdoor performance space for plays and recitals.
The Festival also holds a number of event throughout the year at Dar Al Adaab (the House of Literature) in the Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood.
