Novelist, historian and travel writer Katie Hickman was born into a diplomatic family and grew up in Europe, the Far East and South America. She was educated in England and read English at Pembroke College, Oxford.

Katie is the author of six titles, including two bestselling history books, Courtesans and Daughters of Britannia, which was serialised on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. She has written two travel books, one of which was shortlisted for the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award. She was shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young British Writer of the Year award for her novel The Quetzal Summer, and her previous novel, The Aviary Gate, sold in 19 countries. Her latest novel is The Pindar Diamond, a tale of lust, love, greed, wealth and danger set among the Levant traders in the early years of the 17th century.

Katie lives in London with her two children and her husband, the philosopher A C Grayling.
